Great to meet you!

I provide a warm and secure space where issues can be examined without judgement and where difficult subjects can be explored with safety. I've worked with adults and families for close to 4 decades. I've learned about life not just from knowing others but from experiencing them myself, whether that be chronic illness, loss, or family relationships. As a former musician I understand the importance of seeing that life can be joyous. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community I value the critical need for each of us to lead lives of pride and self confidence. Therapy is not, or should not be, a painful or frightening experience. Do difficult topics get addressed? Of course. But the goal is to distance oneself from the emotional impact of bad events in order to examine them, change our perceptions and build a repertoire of healthy behavior so that we can our lives without guilt or sadness.

My approach to therapy

I don't necessarily believe that every person needs to be in weekly therapy. Nor do I believe that therapy should be an unending experience. Of course, there are those for whom weekly and long-term treatment is essential. But for most of us who struggle with specific issues, a solution-based approach can be effective. Does our history play a role? It usually does and when history is relevant, it is examined.

What you can expect from me

I hope that as they grow in therapy, they feel more empowered, more certain, more assured that life, despite its challenges, is also a thrilling and wonderful experience. I hope that they have learned how to create a positive internal language so that they can keep themselves on steady ground as they navigate life.
