After working with Families and Teens for 20 years as a Youth Pastor I felt the need to get further education in the field of counseling and completed a doctorate in Counseling Psychology. This enabled me to become more effective in the helping process on a professional level. The tone I set is that of a nonjudgmental, empathetic, active environment in a respectful manner. In addition, I help clients feel comfortable sharing personal information.
I allow the client to drive the session and focus on what they want to accomplish in therapy. I incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), as a type of psychotherapy that helps people identify and change negative thought patterns to help improve their mood and quality of life. CBT is based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected, and that negative thought patterns can lead to a negative cycle. CBT aims to help people break down problems into smaller parts and find practical solutions. I have experience in helping clients with anxiety, sleeping disorders, depression, stress management, anger management, motivation, self-esteem/self-worth, and career difficulties. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!
A strong sense of hope a a great deal of encouragement with goals and direction that they are moving in the right direction.
