Great to meet you!

Hello!

As a therapist I've worked extensively with obsessive behaviors, including eating disorders and addiction, and I have experience working with folks in various levels of care, from weekly appointments to full-time residential treatment. I also have a special love for working with couples. I'm EMDR-trained and trauma-informed.

My therapy practice is also shaped by my involvement in men's work, my extensive study of spiritual traditions, my life as a husband and a father, and by my distinctive training at Pacifica Graduate Institute.

My approach to therapy

In my practice I focus especially on a few particular therapeutic realms.

EMDR: for trauma as well as other presenting problems.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP): widely recognized as the "gold standard" for working through obsessive-compulsive disorder, ERP is a more behaviorally oriented therapy that involves safely and gradually engaging with fears or unhelpful and rigid mental rules that are limiting your life. ERP works really well for OCD but is also helpful for many clients who struggle with specific phobias or with panic attacks.
  • Spiritual Problems: I love working with clients on issues at the intersection of their spiritual/religious life and psychology. I meet you where you are and do not bring an agenda about your beliefs or practices into therapy. This could look like dealing with spiritual harm that you've experienced; transitions into or out of spiritual communities; working on fear, uncertainty, or dissatisfaction that is interfering with your spiritual path; discussing your deconstruction. It could also simply be finding a therapy home if you feel you haven't been helpfully met by a therapist in the past because of your religious identity.

What you can expect from me

If you come in for an intake appointment, you can expect to be met with respect, care, deep listening and genuine appreciation for your story-- the parts of that story that bring you to therapy as well as the parts that make you who you are generally. I value doing the intake process slowly enough and thoroughly enough to provide us with the kind of foundation we need to get into the work.
