Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is David Porter, LCSW, and I am an independently licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Arizona with over a decade of experience in the mental health field. I earned my bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and my master's degree in Counseling and Social Work from Arizona State University. My education and professional experience have provided me with a strong foundation for helping individuals navigate life's challenges and create meaningful change.

I provide telehealth psychotherapy services to adults throughout Arizona through my private practice, Finding Hope Counseling Services, LLC.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each client's unique needs and goals. I believe that every person has strengths and resilience that can be built upon, even during life's most difficult challenges. My role is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can openly explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences while developing practical tools for lasting change.

I work with adults who are struggling with a variety of concerns, including trauma, PTSD, addiction, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, mood disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, and LGBTQIA+ related issues. I also work with couples seeking to improve communication, rebuild trust, strengthen emotional intimacy, and navigate major life transitions.

My therapeutic style combines Trauma-Informed Care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Together, we identify unhealthy thought patterns, develop healthy coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and create meaningful goals that align with your values.

As someone who has worked in mental health for over a decade, I understand that healing is not a one-size-fits-all process. Whether you are working through childhood trauma, recovering from addiction, managing anxiety or depression, coping with relationship challenges, or seeking personal growth, I will meet you where you are and support you at a pace that feels safe and productive.

My goal is to help clients build self-awareness, strengthen resilience, improve relationships, and develop the confidence needed to move forward with hope and purpose. I believe lasting change occurs when clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to create the life they want to live.

This is your new beginning.

What you can expect from me

During your first session, my primary goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where you can begin sharing your story at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and I understand that it takes courage to reach out for support.

During our initial session, we will discuss what brings you to counseling, the challenges you are currently facing, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. I will ask questions about your personal history, relationships, mental health concerns, coping strategies, strengths, and support systems. This information helps me gain a better understanding of your experiences and allows us to develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.

You can also expect us to discuss any symptoms you may be experiencing, such as anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, relationship difficulties, grief, addiction, ADHD, mood instability, or other life stressors. Together, we will identify areas of focus and begin exploring practical tools and coping strategies that can help you feel more grounded and supported.

My approach is collaborative, meaning that therapy is something we work on together. You are the expert on your own life, and I am here to provide guidance, support, education, and evidence-based interventions to help you move toward your goals. There is no pressure to share everything at once. We will move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.

By the end of the first session, you can expect to have a better understanding of the therapy process, a clearer picture of your treatment goals, and a plan for moving forward. Most importantly, my hope is that you leave feeling heard, respected, and supported.
