My entire practice is based on relationship. When I work with clients, I hold in mind both their trauma history and their relationship network. We experience pain as individuals, but we're deeply affected by our systems: families, friends, and social circles.
I have 15 years' experience using EMDR (eye-movement-desensitization and reprocessing) therapy to treat trauma and anxiety and I find that EMDR helps most people feel better fairly quickly (much more quickly than regular talk therapy).
Even when I treat couples or families, I use an attachment-trauma approach, including attachment-based EMDR methods. The basis for my work is the idea that we all do better when our interpersonal connections are built on mutual empathy.
