Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Deborah Gromack and I'm a Board Certified Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC-MA) in Massachusetts and a nationally Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). I've been working online as a therapist and counselor since 2020; and use video and phone to communicate with my clients. I received my B.S. in Psychology from UMASS Amherst in 1988 and my M.A. in Expressive Therapies/Music Therapy/Counseling and Psychology from Lesley University in 1998 and have been practicing as an MT-BC and LMHC since 1998 in office settings, schools, day programs, assisted living and nursing home settings, in patient and out patient settings and in the community. The people I've worked with include younger adults, adults and older adults who are facing a variety of life challenges: Alzheimer's/cognitive impairment, a variety of special needs ranging from autism to ADHD, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, workplace issues, grief and loss, work/life balance, self care, family relationships, personal relationships, and chronic health issues.

My approach to therapy

In my work with as a Client Centered therapist, I have utilized Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and various Expressive Arts Therapies. I use these approaches because I find that when a client chooses to work with me, they are experiencing symptoms which are interfering with daily life, such as anxiety or depression, and are seeking immediate solutions and tools to work with, as well as someone who will listen. My background and training provides me with the opportunity to assist in addressing a variety of issues, as well, and I like to 'think outside of the box' to find solutions. In in my presentation and attitude with my clients, I am thoughtful, patient, straightforward, and supportive. I use a variety of different techniques, such as validation, reframing, visualization, imaging, and I work in dialogue with my client to form a partnership in the therapy relationship.

What you can expect from me

My clients can expect to take away tools (such as meditation/prayer, journaling, breathing techniques, visualization, lifestyle changes, sleep enhancement techniques, techniques to help with anxiety, creative tools such as artmaking, music playlists for relaxation/sleep, journaling, breathwork/music, yoga/movement and other techniques which I can offer in the moment within session, and recommendations for online resources, support programs, self help tools, and other supportive resources which can be utilized by the person outside of the therapy session. I often recommend keeping a journal (on one's phone or online, or on paper) to record and keep track of the tools offered and process, and progress made. I offer tools to help the client feel empowered, and supported, both in and outside of the session time. I also wish the client to feel as if they are in a safe, non-judgemental space, where they can speak freely and feel supported unconditionally. My desire as a therapist is to offer what I can to assist the client in their journey towards self-healing, and healing through relationship. If you choose to work with me, please know that I feel fortunate and grateful for the opportunity!
