I have found through two decades of working with clients, as well as in everyday life, that this is a profound truth. We all need to be heard, understood...and then, we can move forward to change and healing. In fact, sometimes "being seen, heard and respected" is healing in itself.

I have worked with clients ranging from toddler to elderly, in person and remotely, with individuals and groups, and from diverse cultures.

In therapy, I use this "being listened to and being heard" perspective as the framework underlying my interactions with clients. This approach is compatible with Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and many others. I always aim to see each client as a unique individual, to get to know them, to identify what they are needing and looking to accomplish, and to assist them in the best way I can. I am always striving to improve my skills and knowledge in order to get better at this!

Clients often say after a session that it is so nice just to have an objective, listening ear. I strive to develop a good "working" relationship, built on mutual regard and respect. I think that, over time and with experience, I have accumulated many valuable skills for my toolbox. But more beneficial, I feel, is my "way of being", showing caring and compassion. The synergy of these parts offers clients a safe place to explore and grow, which can lead to more satisfying and productive outcomes.
