Great to meet you!

The most important thing to know about me is that I love what I do! I don’t take it for granted. Most days, it does NOT feel like work. I feel so honored to be a part of someone’s journey towards healing.

My career has been focused on helping others, in one capacity or another. I have worked in the mental health and addictions field for over 25 years. I have worked in a variety of clinical settings providing intake/assessments, multiple groups, as well as individual, couples and family therapy.

I am originally from California and moved to the Midwest over 21 years ago with my husband/best friend of 33 years and our three adult children. I have three beautiful grandsons. My family is my “why” and they bring so much joy into my life. I am so grateful! I consider myself an optimist, but I was not born one; I had to learn how to challenge my own thoughts and unlearn some negative messaging.

I practice what I preach, and there isn’t anything that I suggest doing that I haven't practiced or wouldn't be willing to try myself. I believe whole-heartedly in therapy! My goal is to relax and be my authentic self in session, which will help you to do the same!

I offer the comfort, support and insight needed with an extra set of eyes and ears to help you view your stressors from a different perspective. I assist you in finding the best fitting tools or techniques to manage those stressors and start feeling better about yourself and the world around you!

My approach to therapy

I am a process therapist meaning I enjoy talk therapy, saying how we think and feel out loud. I believe that it is my responsibility to create a safe and supportive environment for my client to be able to have this kind of experience, to allow my clients to open up and share how they truly feel. Being vulnerable can be overwhelming and trusting someone enough to share intimate parts of their story is difficult, but it is by taking that risk that one can find their voice, and with it the connection and healing they need.

What you can expect from me

The session starts with introductions, a review of the initial paperwork, confidentiality, and exceptions. Next, we will discuss what you can expect from your therapist: the structure of a typical session, the format, therapeutic approaches, and finally, your treatment goals.

I have a diverse background, which makes me less judgmental and more compassionate. I have done my own work and feel more comfortable with myself today than ever before. I try to create an environment that is relaxing and comfortable for my clients. If I can breathe and be present, it helps my clients to do the same.
