Great to meet you!

I'm Dena Boyd, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with 10 years of experience and a master's degree in counseling from Missouri Baptist University. I'm a faith-based counselor, and much of my work centers on sexual health and intimacy, for both individuals and couples. Sex is a normal part of life, but it's often hard to talk about, especially for people of faith. I offer a calm, judgment-free space where nothing you bring up will shock me. I work with people on desire differences, intimacy and connection, sexual behaviors they want to change, and the shame that can surround all of it. I've spent most of my career in intensive treatment settings, which taught me to meet people where they are while still supporting real growth. I also help with anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, and life transitions.

My approach to therapy

My approach is direct, warm, and collaborative. I draw mainly from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing, and I'm trauma-informed. For clients who want it, I gladly bring faith into our work, and I welcome clients of all backgrounds and beliefs. Together we look at how your thoughts, beliefs, and emotions shape what you do, and we build practical skills for managing feelings in the moment. When it comes to sexual health and intimacy, I help clients talk openly, let go of shame, and understand what they want and need. With couples, I help partners communicate honestly, rebuild trust, and understand the patterns that keep them stuck, so each person feels heard. I'll be honest with you, I'll respect your pace, and I'll keep our work focused on the changes that matter most to you.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is about getting to know you. We'll talk about what brought you in, what's been hard lately, and what you'd like to be different. I know it can feel uncomfortable to talk about sex or relationships with someone new, so we'll go at a pace that feels right, and there's no pressure to share more than you're ready to. I'll ask about your history and current supports, explain how I work, and answer any questions you have. If you're coming as a couple, I'll make sure each of you has space to share your perspective. By the end, we'll have a few clear starting goals and a sense of whether we're a good fit. My aim is for you to leave feeling heard, a little more hopeful, and clear on the next step.
