Great to meet you!

You probably landed here because something isn't working — and you've been carrying it longer than you'd like to admit. I'm Denise, an LMFT with 10 years of clinical experience and a PhD in Psychology of Grief Counseling. Grief, anxiety, depression, and the life transitions that quietly knock the ground out from under you — these aren't just specialties for me. They're what I've dedicated my career to understanding.

I bring warmth, directness, and yes — sometimes a bit of humor — to the work. I believe you don't have to be in crisis to deserve support, and you don't have to have the right words before we start. What I offer is a genuine partnership: I'll listen deeply, help you name what's hard to name, and walk alongside you as you find your way back to yourself. Resilience isn't something you either have or you don't — it's something we build together.

My approach to therapy

Therapy, in my view, should feel like a real conversation — not a clipboard and a timer. I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based approaches, and Motivational Interviewing, weaving together what research supports with what actually works for the individual sitting across from me.

I'm collaborative and interactive — you won't get a lot of silent nodding from me. I'll offer perspective, gently challenge the stories that keep you stuck, and help you develop practical strategies that hold up outside our sessions. Whether you're working through grief and loss, managing anxiety, navigating a relationship challenge, or simply trying to feel like yourself again — we'll work on it together, at a pace that honors where you are.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a conversation, not an evaluation. I'll ask what brought you in, what you're hoping for, and a little about your life — there's no pressure to have everything figured out before we meet. My job in that first hour is to listen carefully and help us both get a clear picture of where you are and where you want to go.

By the end, you'll have a real sense of what we might work on together and whether working with me feels right for you. I offer secure telehealth sessions through Headway, so you can connect from wherever you're most comfortable — whether that's your couch, your car, or a quiet corner of your day. Most clients begin to notice a shift within the first few sessions. I look forward to meeting you.
