Great to meet you!

Dennis Alvarez, PsyD, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor providing outpatient mental health treatment to adults and adolescents with anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

He holds a Doctorate in Psychology and post-graduate training in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. His clinical background includes work in inpatient hospital and emergency department settings, where he conducted psychological evaluations, risk assessments, and diagnostic clarification for individuals presenting with acute psychiatric symptoms. He has also provided ongoing outpatient psychotherapy in private practice, allowing for continuity of care following stabilization.

Dr. Alvarez is the author of When Heaven Was Silent: Integrating Psychology and Theology in the Garden of Gethsemane. His doctoral dissertation, The Psychological Impact of Piracy: Incidence of Physical Symptoms Suggestive of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Seafarers, examined trauma exposure and PTSD-related symptom patterns, informing his trauma-informed, evidence-based approach to treatment. His clinical work emphasizes assessment-driven care, symptom stabilization, functional improvement, and longer-term psychological adaptation.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Alvarez employs an integrative, evidence-based treatment model incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Individual (Adlerian) Psychology, and neurofeedback to address clinically significant symptoms and functional impairment. Interventions are guided by ongoing assessment and are aimed at symptom stabilization, reduction of distress, and improvement in psychosocial functioning consistent with medical necessity criteria.

What you can expect from me

During the initial session, I conduct a comprehensive clinical intake to assess presenting concerns, symptom severity, and functional impact. I help clients understand the underlying patterns contributing to their difficulties and begin developing an individualized treatment plan focused on symptom reduction, stabilization, and functional improvement
