Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Derrick, a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and founder of Guardian Path Counseling Services. With more than 15 years of experience in mental health and education, I work with adolescents, teens, and adults facing anxiety, stress, behavioral concerns, emotional challenges, and life's many transitions. I've worked in both school and clinical settings and believe therapy should feel like a real conversation, not something overly clinical or intimidating.

I focus on building a genuine connection and using plain talk so you can feel comfortable being yourself. From there, we'll work together to better understand what's going on, build on your strengths, and find practical ways to help you move forward with greater confidence and clarity.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy should feel like a real conversation. You don't need to have all the right words, and you don't need to have everything figured out before you show up. My job is to provide a space where you can talk openly, sort through what's going on, and work toward meaningful change.

I believe in being straightforward, practical, and down to earth. Rather than hiding behind a lot of clinical jargon, I focus on helping people better understand their situation, build on their strengths, and take realistic steps forward.

Whether you're facing a difficult season of life, dealing with stress or anxiety, navigating relationship challenges, or trying to figure out what's next, my goal is to help you gain clarity, build confidence, and keep moving forward.

What you can expect from me

The first session is really about getting to know each other and talking about what brought you to therapy. We'll spend time discussing what's been going on, what's weighing on you, and what you'd like to be different in your life.

I may ask a lot of questions, but there is no pressure to share more than you're comfortable sharing. My goal is to understand your situation, help you feel comfortable, and begin building a plan for moving forward.

You can expect a real conversation, plain talk, and a supportive environment where you can be yourself without feeling judged. By the end of the session, my hope is that you'll feel heard, have a better understanding of where you are, and have a clearer idea of where you'd like to go next.
