Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Derron Johnson Jr., a Licensed Therapist in Illinois. I am a Certified Trauma-Informed Therapist trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and I incorporate evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, and ACT to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs and goals.

I’m passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to navigate life’s challenges. With a strong foundation in psychology and clinical practice, I help clients make sense of their experiences and symptoms while developing practical tools that support lasting growth, healing, and resilience.

I work with individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and other emotional or behavioral concerns. Together, we will build insight, strengthen coping skills, and create meaningful change that supports your overall well-being and helps you move forward with greater confidence and clarity.

My approach to therapy

I believe meaningful change begins with feeling safe, heard, and understood. My approach to therapy is grounded in empathy, authenticity, and unconditional acceptance. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can openly explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

I view therapy as a collaborative partnership. Rather than telling you what to do, I work alongside you to build insight, process challenges, and identify meaningful steps toward growth. Because every client is unique, I tailor my approach using evidence-based strategies that align with your goals and individual needs.

What you can expect from me

Let's book your first session. Allow me to help you move towards the life that's meaningful to you. Our first session will set the tone for the rest of our work together. It'll consists of us discussing what brings you to treatment, a general assessment for context, and us collaboratively establishing preliminary treatment goals.
