Great to meet you!

Devontá Edwards is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with nearly two decades of experience supporting children, adults, and families through mental health and medical challenges. He brings a strengths-based and solution-focused approach to his work, grounded in compassion, cultural humility, and advocacy. His practice emphasizes meeting clients where they are, empowering them to recognize resilience, and guiding them toward meaningful change.

Devontá has broad experience in community mental health, hospital, and residential settings. At The Dimock Center in Roxbury, he served as a Clinical Supervisor, supporting multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with medical providers, and implementing quality improvement initiatives. He has also worked at Vinfen and Communities in Schools, developing service plans, delivering crisis intervention, and helping clients achieve stability in complex circumstances.

Recognized for his ability to build trust quickly, Devontá is skilled at navigating family systems and helping clients feel safe and understood. He uses client-centered and trauma-informed practices to help individuals process difficult experiences while drawing on their strengths.

Most recently, Devontá has developed a special interest in perinatal mental health, with a focus on supporting fathers. He is passionate about addressing the unique and often overlooked needs of men as they transition into parenthood, including grief, identity shifts, relationship challenges, and the impact of pregnancy-related complications. His goal is to create supportive spaces where fathers can process emotions, strengthen their identity, and deepen family connections.

Devontá has been an active member of the National Association of Social Workers since 2007 and values professional growth, collaboration, and community engagement.

My approach to therapy

I work with clients using a compassionate, strengths-based approach that emphasizes collaboration and trust. My style is warm, practical, and solution-focused, and I aim to create a safe space where clients feel supported and empowered to explore their challenges. I draw from trauma-informed and client-centered practices, helping individuals identify their strengths and resilience while addressing patterns that may no longer serve them.

I have nearly twenty years of experience supporting children, adults, and families through complex life transitions, stress, and grief. More recently, I’ve developed a special focus on perinatal mental health, particularly supporting fathers. I am passionate about helping men navigate the emotional, relational, and identity changes that come with parenthood, including grief and loss, role transitions, and the impact of pregnancy-related complications. My goal is always to help clients feel seen, understood, and equipped with tools to move forward with greater balance and connection.

What you can expect from me

In our first session together, clients can expect a welcoming, supportive environment where the focus is on getting to know you and what brought you to therapy. I take time to understand your story, your strengths, and your goals, while also exploring what you’d like to gain from our work together. The first session is about creating comfort and building trust, so you feel safe to share at your own pace.
