Great to meet you!

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re used to managing everything on your own. You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to navigate a life transition or relationship challenge. Whatever brings you here, I want you to know that you don’t have to figure it all out alone. I’m Dhara Pandya, a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey, and I believe therapy is a collaborative process where you can feel heard, understood, and accepted without judgment. I work with adults, college students, and adolescents navigating anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, and other challenges that can affect their emotional well-being. My goal is to create a warm, welcoming space where you can show up as your authentic self, explore what’s weighing on you, and begin to make sense of your experiences. With over 15 years of experience working in outpatient and school-based settings, I understand that everyone’s story is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to support you in recognizing your strengths, developing tools that work for you, and moving toward meaningful change at a pace that feels comfortable. You deserve a space where you feel safe enough to be honest, explore new perspectives, and discover what a more balanced and fulfilling life can look like for you. Whether you’re feeling stuck, looking for clarity, or ready to make a change, I welcome the opportunity to work alongside you on your journey toward greater self-understanding and emotional well-being.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach is collaborative, person-centered, and tailored to each individual’s unique needs and goals. I consistently draw from CBT to help clients understand their thought patterns, manage emotions, identify strengths, and build motivation for meaningful change. I also utilize DBT skills to help decrease negative emotions and reframe thoughts. I use solution-focused therapy to address the issue(s) clients are experiencing and empower them to face them. I use Motivational Interviewing to prioritize creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and supported. Together, we identify practical strategies and develop skills that can be applied to everyday life, while regularly reflecting on progress and adjusting our approach as needed. My goal is to meet each client where they are and support growth at a pace that feels comfortable and meaningful to them.

What you can expect from me

I want your first virtual therapy session to feel welcoming, comfortable, and free of judgment. We’ll take time to get to know one another, talk about what brings you to therapy, and explore the concerns or challenges you may be experiencing. You’ll have space to share at your own pace, ask questions, and discuss what you hope to gain from therapy. I’ll work collaboratively with you to understand your unique experiences, strengths, and goals. Using a person-centered approach, I want you to feel heard and understood as we begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship. We may also begin exploring practical strategies drawn from CBT, DBT, solution-oriented therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, depending on your needs and readiness. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out before you begin. My goal is for you to leave feeling supported, hopeful, and with a clearer sense of how we can work together toward meaningful change.
