Great to meet you!

Hi, Welcome!

I'm Donnah! I am pretty much an open book and happy to answer any questions you may have about therapy or about me. I was born in Scotland, and have lived in Kentucky for almost 20 years. I am laid-back and flexible. I am genuinely interested in learning about what brings you to therapy and your goals. You will find me informal and easy to talk to.

I earned my undergraduate degree from Lindsey Wilson College, School of Professional Counseling; and my graduate degree from Capella University. I would love to go back to earn my PhD (one day!).

I have worked in community mental health for 13 years mostly serving children, families, and transition age youth (14 - 30 years old). My most recent position was Project Director and Lead Clinician for early intervention for psychosis program. This specialized program in eastern Kentucky grew from one staff (me), to two full teams within five years. There is certainly a need for specialized treatment for youth and young adults in Kentucky. Most of us can relate to the phrase, 'growing up is hard work,' but trying to grow up with an emerging mental health problem is a bigger challenge and often a battle of witts, especially with limited support. I was never more proud of this role, trying to be part of the solution.

Outside of my professional roles: My husband and I have 5 (young adult) children, two of whom are currently enrolled in college; and we enjoy traveling every opportunity we get. I enjoy reading, crafting, hiking, and most of all spending time with my amazing grandbabies.

A bit about my approach to therapy

Therapy looks different for everyone depending on what an individual needs and wants to accomplish. I have no prior agenda. I will collect information to help me get to know you a bit better and we will create a plan collaboratively that is just as unique as you are. I like to provide a solution-focused approach using identified strengths and cognitive behavioral therapy as a foundation.

What you can expect from our first session

It is my hope that clients leave a session feeling validated, and more hopeful and empowered to practice new skills or develop new insights into challenges they face.
