Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Donny Simpson, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over a decade of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. I earned my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Grand Canyon University and my Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Cal State Fullerton.

My professional background includes working in child welfare and family services, where I’ve supported children, parents, and families through some of their most challenging moments. That experience has shaped how I approach therapy today. I believe people want to feel understood and supported, but they also want practical tools that can actually help them move forward.

I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship and communication challenges, family conflict, life transitions, and difficulties with motivation or feeling stuck.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is conversational, collaborative, and focused on helping you understand what’s happening beneath the surface while also finding practical ways to move forward. I don’t believe therapy should feel like you’re simply being talked at or given a list of things you “should” do. I want us to work together to understand your experiences, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and find strategies that fit your life.

I draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy, but I believe therapy should be individualized rather than one-size-fits-all. Sometimes that means working through difficult emotions or past experiences, and other times it means focusing on a current problem and figuring out what you can do differently moving forward.

I also place a lot of value on creating a comfortable, judgment-free environment. Therapy can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to feel intimidating. My goal is for you to feel heard, understood, and supported while also being challenged when it can help you grow. Ultimately, I want therapy to be a place where you can be yourself, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and leave with a clearer sense of where you want to go next.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to get a feel for whether I’m the right therapist for you. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you’d like to be different. I’ll also ask questions about your background, relationships, and anything else that may help me better understand your situation.

I know starting therapy can feel uncomfortable or even a little intimidating, especially if you’re not sure what to expect. You don’t need to have the “right” answers, and you don’t need to have everything figured out before we meet. We’ll take things at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

By the end of our first session, I hope you feel heard and have a clearer sense of how we can work together. We’ll begin identifying some goals and, when appropriate, start exploring practical strategies you can use between sessions. Most importantly, I want you to leave feeling that you have a safe, judgment-free space where you can be yourself and talk openly about what’s going on.
