Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Dora Smith, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and South Carolina and a former teacher with experience in both general and special education. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands.

I work with individuals, couples, and adolescents on concerns such as relationships, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, grief, ADHD, PTSD, addictions, and life transitions. I believe everyone can overcome challenges with the right support and effort.

Life transitions can feel overwhelming, whether you’re a new parent, a young adult finding your way, or balancing care for both children and parents. My passion is helping clients navigate these changes while staying true to themselves. My approach is warm, person-centered, and collaborative—we’ll explore how your thoughts, emotions, and actions shape your experiences, then make practical adjustments to support your goals. And when you make progress, I’ll be the first to celebrate with you!

My approach to therapy

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs that contribute to their emotional distress. Through structured sessions, we explore how thoughts influence feelings and behaviors, equipping clients with practical skills to reframe their thinking. By setting specific goals and practicing coping strategies, clients learn to manage their symptoms more effectively and develop healthier responses to life's challenges. This collaborative approach fosters greater self-awareness and empowers clients to make positive changes.

What you can expect from me

Our sessions are a safe space for you to share your thoughts and feelings. Grow as an individual and learn coping skills to help you manage life when it happens.
