Great to meet you!

I came to the profession of counseling a little later in life. After being widowed fairly young, a wonderful counselor helped me process my grief and find a way forward. I made the decision to return to school and I earned my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Texas Wesleyan in 2012. I have worked since 2013 for Tarrant County doing counseling with court mandated probationers. I provide counseling to address addiction and substance abuse issues as well as cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns that often prevent clients from making healthy rational choices for themselves.

My approach to therapy

I work from an Adlerian base and use Cognitive Behavioral and Reality Theory to help clients examine how certain core beliefs and coping patterns are linked to thinking, emotions, and behaviors. I develop a therapeutic relationship with clients based on unconditional positive regard and invite the client to “steer the ship”. I see my role being to ask the right questions, which allows the client to find their own answers. My goal is to help my clients recognize their own capacity for change and the power they possess to choose.

What you can expect from me

Apart from the administrative details such as fees, mandated reporting and confidentiality - the first session will be mostly devoted to discussing what brings the client to therapy, what their goals are, and what expectations they may have about the therapeutic process. I generally like to take a brief biopsychosocial history and then spend some time establishing the core therapeutic relationship upon which future sessions will be based.
