Great to meet you!

If you’re here, something isn’t working the way it used to, and that takes courage to acknowledge. Maybe you’re carrying more than you let anyone see. Maybe the anxiety has gotten louder, or you’re so busy holding it all together for everyone else that you’ve lost track of what you actually need.

I’m Dr. Cory Viehl (PhD, LPC, NCC, ACS, BC-TMH), and I work with individuals and within relationships, helping those who are navigating the space between who they’ve been performing as and who they actually want to be. That often means working through anxiety, depression, burnout, substance use, identity, and the kind of quiet exhaustion that doesn’t have an easy name. I have a particular passion for working with LGBTQI+ individuals and relationships, veterans, and helping professionals — people who spend their lives showing up for others and rarely get permission to show up for themselves.

I came to this work because I saw too many people struggling in silence, convinced they had to figure it out alone. Almost two decades later, that’s still what drives me. What I enjoy most is watching someone realize they don’t have to keep performing a version of themselves that stopped fitting a long time ago.

I practice exclusively through telehealth, which means you can do this work from wherever you are — no commute, no waiting room, just an honest conversation. If you’re ready to take that first step, please reach out.

My approach to therapy

Many of the people I work with have spent years surviving systems that weren’t built for them — pushing through, adapting, performing — and somewhere along the way, lost touch with what they actually need. Together, we explore what it looks like to move from surviving to thriving: embracing the most authentic version of yourself and building the skills to live in alignment with who you really are.

My approach is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, existential, and narrative work, which, in plain terms, means we focus less on “fixing” you and more on understanding the stories you’ve been living by, which ones still serve you, and what it looks like to build a life that aligns with your authentic self. What I hear from clients most often is that I’m direct, genuine, and not afraid to sit in the hard stuff alongside them.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a safe space and a listening ear. We’ll talk about what’s going on, what’s not working, and what you want life to look like on the other side of this work. I’ll ask questions and listen to your story, and by the end, you should have a clearer sense of whether this feels like the right fit. From there, we’ll set goals together, talk about what has and hasn’t worked for you in counseling before, and build a plan that actually makes sense for your life. You’ll always be in the driver’s seat — this is your life, your story, and your process, and I am humbled to walk alongside you in this healing process.
