Great to meet you!

I am a therapist with over 35 years of experience in behavioral health and counseling. I have also spent much of my career teaching and training, speaking to thousands on topics including relationships, parenting, crisis intervention, and mental health. Guided by the belief “Fall seven times, stand up eight,”

My approach to therapy

My approach moves beyond a purely medical model, viewing distressing symptoms as meaningful signals of unmet needs rather than simply signs of a “broken brain.” I help clients build resilience and understanding, and I take a unique approach to couples work by meeting with partners individually to more effectively address the patterns each person brings into the relationship. I specialize in supporting individuals facing severe and often intrusive experiences such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and psychosis related to schizophrenia—areas where I bring both deep expertise and a strong commitment to engage when others may hesitate.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, you can expect a thoughtful and structured conversation focused on understanding your experiences, what brings you in, and what you would like to see change. I will ask about your current concerns and important aspects of your history, while also paying close attention to the meaning behind your thoughts, emotions, and symptoms rather than viewing them simply as problems to eliminate. Together, we will begin identifying patterns, unmet needs, and the “story” your experiences may be telling, with an emphasis on building insight and practical direction. If you are seeking help as part of a couple, we will typically meet individually at first so each person has space to speak openly and begin exploring their own role in the relationship. The first session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of how I work and to decide whether this approach feels like a good fit for you.
