I am a couples and family therapist that was trained at the Ackerman Institute for the Family in a Relational Approach to therapy. When working with an individual, couple or family, together we will do a deep dive into the family relationships of each person including with parents, siblings, past romantic relationships and social experiences, etc. We do this because it helps to inform presenting problems.
My approach to therapy is goal oriented, solution focused. We spend the first 3 sessions (the assessment phase) understanding the presenting problems, and then we come up with a goal for our work together. From here therapy is very fluid. We work towards the goal based on life's daily and weekly challenges.
Clients can take away tangible tools to verbalize to self or others when it comes to communication needs. My goal of every session is to also make sure that each individual feels validated, heard and understood.
