Great to meet you!

EJ holds a master's degree in Counseling from The Family Institute at Northwestern University. Their clinical training has included work with both children and adults, individually and in relationships, in practices including Turning Point Behavioral Health Care Center, Chicago Children's Advocacy Center, and Practical Audacity.

EJ is a Black, queer, neurodivergent trauma therapist who uses an integrated therapeutic approach that is queer-centered and kink inclusive and combines their psychodynamic training with an awareness of how systems of power, communities of care, and constellations of relationships shape us and our wellbeing.

They specialize in nontraditional relationship structures, navigating complex life changes, and working with neurodivergent strengths rather than against their vulnerabilities. EJ helps individuals and relationships navigate spiritual, relational and sexual traumas - including those related to evolving, stagnating, or poorly fitting relationships.

They enjoy working with neurodivergent and otherwise marginalized clients, especially in regards to issues of identity, skill building, and loss that can come up around a new diagnosis or navigating evolving life challenges around an old one.

My approach to therapy

Their approach to therapy is collaborative and molded around the clients’ individual strengths, preferences and pathways to joy. Their practice is grounded in humor, humility, and consent-based relationships.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, clients can expect a lot of questions - about themselves, their concerns, and their constellations of important people, to name a few. Clients can also expect space to ask their own questions, co-create goals for therapy, and develop at least a first draft of what this process will look like. The goal from the very beginning is to develop a structure and shared language that is safe and generative enough to move towards the changes that clients want to see in their lives.
