Great to meet you!

After decades of listening to people share very personal secrets I realized something unique was happening. I was wrong in thinking everyone openly shared secrets with each other. I realized people were choosing me specifically. So, in my 30s I responded to (or stopped ignoring) the signs pointing me in the direction of counseling and I earned a master's degree and a doctorate in counseling. Let's get to work.

A bit about my approach to therapy

You know what to do, what you want & need. But "but" gets in the way ... obstacles hijack attention & energy. Your wisdom might be buried under a heap of "shoulds, musts, & gottas" placed on you by other people & institutions. My job is to help you identify your core values and priorities. I listen for your unique truth & strength and hand it back to you. If the solutions you've been implementing are not working, it is probably because they are designed for A problem but not THE problem.

What you can expect from our first session

A tricky task in counseling is setting clear, achievable, measurable goals. We'll do that. We'll highlight your strengths and use them efficiently. We'll identify areas for improvement and see what sabotages progress. For example:

  • I want stop letting people take advantage of me ... but I want them to like me, I don't want to feel guilty
  • My job is miserable and I want to change careers ... but I make tons of money
  • I want to stop drinking ... but I don't want people asking me why I don't drink

Eli's style is

Humorous
Direct
Affirming
