Great to meet you!

My name is Elida Guzman, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Bakersfield, California. I’ve been working in the counseling field since 2000, with experience in child welfare, non-profit organizations, and private practice.

I work with individuals, couples, and families who are going through difficult times and need support. I specialize in treating anxiety, trauma, grief, and depression. My approach is flexible and supportive, using evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness.

I believe in helping people gain self-awareness and discover their strengths, so they can overcome challenges and grow. My goal is to provide a safe, collaborative space where healing and personal growth can happen.

Feel free to reach out to learn more. I’d be happy to connect.

My approach to therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a well-established approach that helps individuals understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By learning to recognize and gently challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, individuals can begin to develop more positive and balanced ways of thinking and responding. This process often leads to reduced emotional distress, stronger coping skills, and a greater sense of well-being.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is especially supportive for individuals who experience intense emotions, including those navigating emotional dysregulation, self-harming behaviors, or conditions such as borderline personality disorder. DBT blends acceptance and change, helping individuals honor where they are while also working toward meaningful growth. Therapy is offered through one-on-one sessions and may also include phone coaching, giving clients the opportunity to reach out for support during particularly challenging moments.

DBT provides practical tools to manage overwhelming emotions, handle stress more effectively, and improve relationships. Over time, these skills can support individuals in creating a more stable, fulfilling, and connected life.

What you can expect from me

Individuals can expect to develop a clearer understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They will learn practical coping strategies and build tools to navigate life’s challenges while making meaningful, positive changes. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore personal experiences, find encouragement, and grow toward greater well-being.
