Great to meet you!

Liz Steering Burba is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) who received her Master’s in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Kentucky in 2023. Liz is also the owner of Steering Family Services LLC, a private therapy practice located in Bellevue, KY. Prior to her clinical work, Liz spent years within the non-profit sector in various roles that directly served youth from international, immigrant, and refugee populations. Liz is also a RPCV (Returned Peace Corps Volunteer).

My approach to therapy

Liz specializes in supporting teenaged clients during times of change, conflict, or emotional/relational strain. Liz skillfully empowers adolescents, as well as their entire family systems, through the intentional cultivation of self-esteem, leadership skills, and personal accountability. Liz targets the entire family system by helping each individual family member recognize the ways in which they may contribute to unhealthy cycles or relationship dynamics within the family unit.

Liz is also very effective at helping monogamous romantic couples to clearly identify the origin stories of their unmet emotional needs and dysfunctional communication patterns. Through the cultivation of trust and the triage of unhealed attachment wounds, Liz is able to move couples from feeling stuck, insecure, or distant, to feeling close, connected, and secure.

Some of her favorite models include Narrative, Contextual, Structural, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy (STST), and Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT).

What you can expect from me

Liz looks at every client through a systemic lens by honoring the intersectionality of their unique roles/identities, personal experiences, important relationships, and emotional attachment styles. Liz will ensure to make all clients feel as safe, comfortable, and understood as possible in order to build a strong therapeutic relationship, which always serves as the core foundation of effective therapeutic work.
