Great to meet you!

My name is Elizabeth DeAngelis and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NYC. I earned my Ed.M at Columbia University in mental health counseling. I also received an MA in psychology and religion at Union Theological Seminary. At Union I received specialized training about clients' existential/spiritual concerns. My goal is to offer clients a safe space to process emotions without judgment. I want to help clients explore their past and present stressors to overcome blockages in life.

My approach to therapy

I work mainly from a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapeutic framework. I work with client's to explore their past attachment patterns and traumas to help address current relational patterns that are keeping them from the life they deserve. However, I also do not believe therapeutic technique is a one size fits all situation. I incorporate CBT and DBT skills to help clients challenge negative thinking patterns and increase emotional regulation skills.

What you can expect from me

I believe a strong therapeutic alliance with clients is central to effective psychotherapy. Therapy is a collaborative process because through relationships we heal. Our first session we will discuss your current concerns, goals, mental/physical health history, and an overview of the therapeutic process. Additionally, I am aware sociopolitical context affects our lives. My intersectional feminist approach to therapy gives you space to discuss how different aspects of identify affect your life.
