Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Elizabeth Forbes and I go by Libby. First, I want to say, you are so brave to take this step to take care of you! Thank you! You matter, you qualify, and you are worthy!

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Indiana with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). I have spent 12 years in home-based work serving high conflict/high risk individuals and families utilizing the Functional Family Therapy model.

My philosophy is, “If we each are better then that is better, and we then are all better.” I have always embraced and enjoyed helping others. I work to meet you right where you are. From there, we work together to explore where you want to go.

My approach to therapy

I work to create a client-centered space that is safe, open, and supportive while working in a collaborative manner. Various theories can be used, such as Systems, Social Learning, Developmental, Conflict, and Psychodynamic, intervening CBT, Emotionally Focused, Attachment, Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered, Supportive, Strength-based, Trauma Focused, and Grief interventions, to assist in gaining greater awareness and understanding of self and the world around self. A biopsychosocial is a helpful tool I utilize with clients to assist in exploring goals, objectives, and interventions that can lead to client empowerment—that is, a strengthening in one’s own abilities to take charge of, and even create, their own positive outcomes. Through this partnership, my goal is for each of my clients to build (or repair) their own sense of self, including developing and improving their self-esteem and self-confidence.

What you can expect from me

During the first initial session, recognizing that there can be nervous, anxious feelings, I try to work to ease these feelings. The hard part for me is the formalities such as the intake form which have to be done. Hard because it seems a little too formal. So, I try to weave this into our initial session while getting introduced to one another. We will work to share, explain, understand, and ask questions related to expectations, scheduling, and ensuring a client feels comfortable moving forward. I try to make it as comfortable as possible leaving the client feeling hopeful.
