Great to meet you!

Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what comes next? You’re not alone—and you don’t have to navigate it by yourself. Whether you’re experiencing stress, anxiety, major life transitions, or a general sense of feeling off-balance, I provide a supportive space to help you gain clarity, reconnect with your strengths, and move toward meaningful change.

I’m Dr. Elizabeth Misener, LCSW, a clinician with over 25 years of experience supporting individuals —from adolescents to seasoned adults—and couples, as they navigate life’s challenges with resilience and purpose. Our work will focus not only on addressing concerns, but also on identifying and building upon the inner resources you already possess and learning new evidence based tools and techniques.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Problem-Solving Therapy (PST), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology. This integrative framework allows me to tailor our work to your unique needs and goals. Therapy with me is both supportive and action-oriented, with a focus on practical strategies and meaningful change centered on what matters most to you.

For example, if you are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety related to work or life transitions, we might use CBT to identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, while incorporating Solution-Focused techniques to highlight what is already working. At the same time, we may use PST to break larger stressors into manageable steps and Positive Psychology to strengthen resilience by building on your existing strengths. The goal is to leave sessions with both insight and concrete tools you can apply in daily life.

What you can expect from me

We will begin where you are, taking time to explore what brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it. The first session is designed to help you feel comfortable and supported while we begin building a strong therapeutic connection. You can expect to discuss current concerns, relevant background, and any immediate stressors, as well as clarify goals and priorities. By the end of the session, most clients leave with increased clarity about their situation, a preliminary focus for therapy, and at least one practical strategy to use right away—such as identifying a specific, manageable step to reduce stress this week or practicing a brief grounding exercise to help regulate emotions between sessions such as the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise.
