Elizabeth Walter

Hello! I am Shelby, I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who has a passion for working with children and families; but also adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma. I obtained my MSW from Our Lady of the Lake University in 2021 and completed my clinical supervision in 2024. I started my career working as a mental health consultant for children and families. As a mental health consultant I trained parents and families on trauma informed practices and used attachment therapy approaches. After completing my time as a mental health consultant I have done some private practice work and have really enjoyed working with teens and young adults, struggling with various trauma and adjustment related issues. I enjoy working with young children and their families, parent coaching and training as well.

I started my educational journey working with children who have special needs, focusing on Autism. The last few years, I have emphasized on working with young children, adolescents, and parents who have experienced multiple traumas. My outlook on working with clients' who have experienced trauma is focusing around the question of "What has happened to you". Assisting the client overcome their personal traumas and seeing the growth and positive outcomes of healing, has to be the most rewarding part of the therapeutic process.

In my work, I enjoy building off multiple modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Play Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing amongst other forms of therapy to find the best fit for my client. It is important in my practice to guide the client to healing and empowerment.

My goal is to empower and encourage hope, healing, and change for the better. I hope that you will walk away feeling empowered, positive, and with the knowledge and skills that you can get through whatever you may be facing, and you aren't alone!
