Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Emily Cortez, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. Thank you for taking the time to read about me. It is my hope to connect with you in a warm, supportive space to help process and tackle the many challenges that life throws at us. I have been practicing in the field going on 5 years now and have experience working with children, teens, families, and adults. I specialize in anxiety, depression, adjustment/life transitions, trauma, and grief/loss.

A bit about my approach to therapy

I meet all my clients where they are and acknowledge how daunting and vulnerable therapy can be. I ensure that my approach is warm, inviting, collaborative, and aimed to build a positive therapeutic relationship first in order to make progress towards intended goals. I use CBT and solution focused approaches but also consider myself client-centered and want to make sure you feel heard and validated to process your thoughts and emotions in a comforting space.

What you can expect from our first session

The focus of sessions will be what you want to focus on. My initial goals are getting to know you and understanding what you are hoping to get out of therapy. My hope is to empower you and help break down goals to address issues that anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other life circumstances bring on.
