Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Emily Genovese. For more than 20 years, I've had the privilege of walking alongside individuals, couples, and families here in Rochester and the surrounding communities. Before starting my private practice in 2017, I worked in a variety of clinic and community settings, each one deepening my appreciation for the many ways people heal and grow.

I graduated from Nazareth College in 2003 with a Master's in Art Therapy, and since then I've been committed to creating safe, supportive spaces where people can explore what's on their hearts and minds. I believe therapy is about more than just treating symptoms-it's about honoring your story, your values, and your hopes for the future.

In my work, I most often meet with individuals, but I also enjoy helping families find new ways to connect and support one another. Whether you're coping with anxiety or depression, navigating family conflict, working through trauma, or simply seeking more balance and fulfillment, I'll meet you where you are and walk with you toward your goals.

It's a deep honor to share in life's journeys with the people I work with. I bring warmth, compassion, and creativity to every session, and I look forward to helping you discover your own strengths and possibilities.

My approach to therapy

As a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, I am dedicated to supporting you as you reconnect with your inner strength and rediscover inspiration in your daily life. I work with individuals navigating medical and mental health challenges, as well as those seeking emotional, creative, and spiritual growth. My goal is to honor your values and beliefs while creating a safe, compassionate space where you can share your story, embrace imperfection, and reclaim your dreams.

There are seasons in all of our lives when things feel overwhelming, hope feels distant, and connection seems out of reach. In those moments, having meaningful support can make all the difference. Therapy can be a powerful first step toward choosing yourself and prioritizing your well-being.

Together, we will nurture your resilience, strengthen your confidence, and build the skills you need to move toward your goals. I believe that within every experience lies the potential for growth—a gift, an opening, an opportunity to blossom into your most authentic self.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where you are invited to simply arrive as you are. Our time together begins with listening. I want to understand what has brought you here, what you are hoping for, and what feels most important in your life right now.

We will talk about your current challenges, your strengths, and your supports. If you’re open to it, we may gently explore how creativity, reflection, or art-making might support your process — though there is never pressure to create. The first session is about building connection and establishing a foundation of safety and trust.

Together, we will begin identifying goals that feel meaningful and realistic for you. These may include reducing anxiety or overwhelm, strengthening coping skills, improving relationships, reconnecting with your creativity, deepening self-understanding, or restoring a sense of balance and purpose. Goals are collaborative and can evolve as you grow.

My intention is to create an environment where you feel respected, heard, and empowered — a space where imperfections are welcomed and growth unfolds at your pace. Therapy is not about fixing you; it is about uncovering and strengthening what is already within you.
