Great to meet you!

HI! My name is Emily Mertz. I’m a 2008 graduate of Drexel University with 17 years of clinical experience in the field of mental health and human services. In addition to being a licensed professional counselor, I am also a Board Certified and licensed Creative Arts Therapist. (LPC, ATR-BC, LPAT). I pride myself in having an innovative approach to treatment which incorporates the use of both verbal and non-verbal therapeutic modalities. I specialize in treating children and families who have experienced traumatic life situations, such as those with histories of domestic violence, and individuals with past abuse or neglect which may impacting their functioning. However, I have worked with individuals of all ages and at all levels of care, from those struggling with transitions or major life adjustments, to those coping with Chronic mental health conditions. In my practice, I aim to be both empowering and affirming, using a client-centered strengths based approach to treatment. My goal is to help clients improve self-awareness and confidence to make changes, while improving their ability to live happier, healthier and more personally full-filling lives.

My approach to therapy

In my practice I utilize a humanistic, person centered approach which promotes self-awareness, encouraging client’s to better realize their strengths. I also incorporate the use of Gestalt treatment approaches utilizing the here and now to empower individuals, becoming more aware of their own innate capacity to heal and create change in their lives. As an art therapist, I lean of the creative arts to increase awareness and promote healing.

What you can expect from me

I want clients to know I can be here to support them, helping them heal, and I am able to serve as a witness to their growth. However, I would love for them to know that they can become the change agent in their own lives.
