Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Emily Sanchez, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the owner of Family Matters Counseling. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Western New Mexico University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and I have more than 10 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through difficult seasons of life.

I specialize in relationships, divorce and life transitions, parenting, anxiety, and faith transitions, including religious trauma. I also enjoy working with children and teens navigating anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, and executive functioning challenges. I have extensive training in Relational Life Therapy (RLT), as well as CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, and other evidence-based approaches.

Whether you're struggling in a relationship, navigating a major life transition, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to help you feel understood and supported while finding a path forward.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is practical, relational, and collaborative. I believe lasting change begins with understanding the patterns that shape the way we think, feel, and relate to others. Together, we’ll look beyond the immediate problem to understand what is keeping you stuck and what needs to change.

I believe therapy should be a place where you can be honest and fully yourself without judgment. At the same time, I don’t believe therapy should simply be a place to talk about problems without moving toward solutions. I’ll help you develop insight while also giving you practical tools you can use in your everyday life and relationships.

My approach is individualized because every person and relationship is different. I draw from Relational Life Therapy, CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, and other approaches depending on what will be most helpful for you. Whether we’re working through relationship struggles, anxiety, trauma, divorce, family conflict, or a major life transition, my goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply, create healthier patterns, and move forward with greater confidence and connection.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about what you’re experiencing, what has been happening in your life, and what you hope to get out of therapy.

I’ll ask questions to better understand the bigger picture, including your relationships, family, history, and the patterns that may be contributing to what you’re experiencing. We’ll also begin identifying goals for therapy and discussing what might be most helpful moving forward.

You don’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of where we can go together.
