Great to meet you!

My name is Emily Tyler, I am a licensed clinical social worker trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy with five years of experience providing individual and family therapy. DBT focuses on the balance of acceptance and change to help us to determine how to start as we are and develop realistic plans to make desired changes to our lives. We will work on increasing compassion and understanding for your specific challenges in order to then figure out how we can address these in manageable ways.

My approach to therapy

We will focus on increasing validation for your emotional responses. Very often when we have big emotional reactions to something, we label ourselves as the problem instead of the situation itself. The more understanding we can offer to ourselves, the more flexibility we can find for how we manage our emotional response and engage in problem-solving. We will utilize mindfulness to increase non-judge mental awareness.

What you can expect from me

Increased emotional awareness, understanding, and validation for self; development of coping skills and distress tolerance; assertive communication techniques
