Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Dr. Emily Watts, a New York State licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist. I earned my Ph.D. in School Psychology from Syracuse University and have extensive experience providing counseling and psychological services in school, clinical, and community-based settings.

Throughout my career, I have worked closely with individuals and families to support emotional regulation, behavior change, and overall well-being. I aim to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to make meaningful, lasting changes.

My approach to therapy

I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families who are navigating anxiety, trauma, stress, behavioral challenges, and life transitions. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and focused on helping you build practical skills you can use in your daily life.

I utilize evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and solution-focused strategies. Through ACT, I help clients develop greater psychological flexibility—learning how to respond to difficult thoughts and emotions in a way that aligns with their values and goals.

I also have experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma. In therapy, I prioritize creating a safe, supportive space and move at a pace that feels comfortable, while helping you build coping skills and process experiences in a meaningful and manageable way.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know you and understanding your unique experiences and goals. I create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can openly share your thoughts and feelings. Together, we’ll identify your priorities, explore challenges, and begin to develop strategies that fit your needs. Many clients leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clear sense of the steps we’ll take together in therapy.
