Great to meet you!

Hi. I’m Emily. Nice to meet you here on this space. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I am a graduate of Pacifica Graduate Institute with a master’s degree in counseling psychology. I completed my undergraduate work at U.C. Berkeley in Northern California. I did my associate work at Crossroads Institute and before that I worked for two years at Pelican Cove Counseling Center; a clinic that offers low-cost, long-term therapy, with a depth psychodynamic orientation. I work with couples, families, children, adolescents and adults. I prefer a depth psychodynamic approach and encourage creative expression with a trauma sensitive lens. I believe that our bodies are great sources of emotional information and tuning in to our bodies can help to cultivate insight. I like IFS or Internal Family Systems work where one is encouraged to address and heal with different parts of oneself. I also pay close attention to and honor attachment styles. I see the therapeutic relationship as a support system that anyone can use and I am interested in fostering a space where non-judgement, anti-racism, and open-hearted exploration and acceptance of Self are the norm.

My approach to therapy

Therapy is a progressive relationship that is centered around discovering, exploring, and creating a relationship with your inner world. It is completely unique, personal, and can be very exciting, and at times, very uncomfortable. People seek out therapy for many different reasons. Perhaps you are feeling frustration with an aspect of your life. Perhaps you are going through a difficult transition. Or maybe you would like a better understanding of yourself and the relationships you choose to engage with. There are no correct reasons to engage with therapy and there are no correct answers to be gleaned from the process apart from the conclusions that can be drawn from self-discovery. I believe that every person has internal directives and a built-in map of what they need. We will build a relationship that will help you explore your inner directives within an environment that is encouraging and safe. I care deeply to help people meet themselves where they are and to help them find contentment through self-acceptance.

What you can expect from me

The first session is a time to gauge whether I am a good fit for you and explore your goals for therapeutic work. Some of our first weeks together will be spent getting comfortable and helping me get to know you.
