Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Emma Foster, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, life transitions, relationship concerns, self-esteem challenges, and adoption-related experiences. I earned my Master of Social Work from Concord University and have experience providing individual therapy in community-based settings, with additional experience working with families.

I also have experience working with adoptees and adoption-related concerns. In addition to my MSW, I hold a bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language (ASL) and Interpreting and previously worked as an ASL interpreter. This background allows me to provide quality, accessible individual therapy to Deaf and hard-of-hearing clients in ASL.

My goal is to meet you where you are, work together to identify what you need, build on your strengths, and develop strategies that fit your life.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, collaborative, and person-centered. In therapy, I use evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I believe therapy should be a space where you feel heard, respected, and comfortable being yourself, while also having practical tools to help you navigate challenges and work toward meaningful change.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other and talk about what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping to work on, and what you would like to get out of treatment. I’ll ask questions about your current concerns and relevant history so I can better understand your experiences and how they are affecting you.

You can expect a collaborative conversation rather than feeling like you have to have everything figured out before we begin. We’ll work together to identify your goals and determine how I can best support you. Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable, heard, and respected as we begin building a therapeutic relationship.
