Great to meet you!

Emy Carlson, MS, LPCMH-S, QMHP, NCC, LLPC, CCPT Clinical Mental Health Counselor

I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health from South Dakota State University. With a background as a former police officer, I have extensive experience working closely with service members and military personnel. I provide counseling for individuals and couples aged 18 and older, addressing a wide range of concerns from anxiety to major mental health disorders. Now accepting patients in SD, MN, IA, WA and internationally.

A bit about my approach to therapy

I take an eclectic approach to therapy, tailoring treatment to each client’s unique goals and needs. While I do not provide treatment for substance use or addiction, I offer trusted referrals to ensure clients receive the appropriate support. My focus is on creating a safe, supportive space where clients can explore, heal, and grow.

What you can expect from our first session

Clients can expect a supportive, structured, and goal-oriented environment where they feel heard, understood, and challenged to grow. I consider myself an accountability therapist, which differs from traditional therapy—I help clients stay committed to their own therapy goals, providing the structure and guidance needed to ensure progress. My approach is eclectic, meaning I tailor treatment to each individual's needs, whether that includes developing coping strategies, improving emotional regulation, strengthening relationships, or working through deeper mental health concerns. Ultimately, my goal is to empower clients to build resilience, gain clarity, and make meaningful changes that align with their core values and well-being.
