Great to meet you!

You did everything you were supposed to do, and somehow life still feels like it's running on someone else's script. That's where I like to start. Before I became a counselor I spent years as a lighting designer, and more than a decade volunteering in the recovery community, from an adolescent rehab unit to a recovery high school. I earned my master's in counseling at Pace University, where I now teach future counselors as an adjunct professor while working toward my PhD. I see adults, couples and families online, anywhere in New York.

My approach to therapy

My work is rooted in narrative therapy, and it starts with a simple idea: you are not the problem. The problem is the problem. Once we can see it that way, there's room to move. I'm also trained in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), so we can pair curiosity about the story you were handed with practical tools for the anxious, stuck moments in between. You're the expert on your life. I'll ask good questions, push a little when it helps, and pay attention to how family, culture and circumstance shaped where you are now.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is mostly about getting to know you. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, what you've already tried, and what you'd like to feel different. You don't need the right words or a tidy story. By the end we'll have a rough sense of where to start and whether we're a good fit. Sessions are online, so you can join from anywhere in New York.
