Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Erin, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and a Doctoral Candidate in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES). I have experience working with individuals across the lifespan and have specialized training in trauma, substance use disorders, crisis intervention, and problematic sexual behaviors.

My clinical experience includes working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, grief, substance use, and recovery. I also have experience providing assessment and treatment for individuals with problematic sexual behaviors, an area in which many clients struggle to find knowledgeable and nonjudgmental care.

In addition to working with the general adult population, I enjoy supporting counselors, graduate counseling students, and other helping professionals who are navigating the unique challenges of caring for others while maintaining their own well-being.

As both a practicing clinician and counselor educator, I am passionate about promoting wellness, professional growth, and compassionate, evidence-informed care.

My approach to therapy

I believe people are far more than a diagnosis or the most difficult experience they have faced. My approach to counseling is holistic, trauma-informed, and wellness-oriented, recognizing that emotional health is influenced by relationships, physical health, personal values, culture, purpose, and life experiences.

Therapy is not simply about reducing symptoms—it is about helping people build meaningful, fulfilling lives. Together we will identify your strengths, explore patterns that may no longer be serving you, and develop practical skills that support lasting growth.

I strive to create a space where clients feel respected, understood, and safe to be themselves. Whether you are working through trauma, anxiety, relationship concerns, recovery, professional stress, or questions about identity and purpose, our work will be collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your individual goals.

What you can expect from me

Beginning therapy can feel intimidating, and it's completely normal to feel unsure about what to expect. My goal is to create a welcoming, respectful environment where you feel comfortable sharing at your own pace.

During our first session, we'll review informed consent, discuss confidentiality and its legal and ethical limits, and answer any questions you have about the counseling process. This helps ensure you understand what to expect and feel comfortable moving forward.

From there, I'll spend time getting to know you. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, important life experiences, your strengths, and what you hope to gain from counseling. I believe that understanding the whole person—not just the problem—is an important foundation for meaningful change.

Rather than trying to solve everything in one appointment, our first session is about building a strong therapeutic relationship and developing a shared understanding of your goals. Together, we'll begin identifying treatment goals and discuss what our work together may look like moving forward.

By the end of our first session, you'll have a clearer understanding of the counseling process, my approach to therapy, and the next steps in your treatment.
