Great to meet you!

Thank you for reaching out for assistance. I have been providing mental health interventions and support for 36 years as an LCSW. I have also been credentialed as a trauma and ICU nurse and very early on in my professional life I was a special education teacher and received a masters in education as well.

My first few decades in practice was dedicated to the care and treatment of children 4 -12 years of age and adolescents 13 to 18 many who had been adjudicated for protection. Because of my nursing background and work in oncology I also have experience in providing supportive care for loss and grief issues as well as education and support for chronic illness, and post trauma care.

I have in the past 15 years began to work also with adults. I am licensed in EMDR interventions for PTSD both acute and chronic post trauma effects.

Because of my medical background i try and include a holistic approach to understanding both the physical and psychological issues my clients may be experiencing .

My approach to therapy

I try to engage my clients to be an active part of their healing. It is also important for my clients to feel comfortable with me so I tend to be direct and to the point in a supportive when providing feedback . Because much of my early work was with children including children with chronic debilitating illnesses like cancer I realized how important honesty was in the formation of trust with my pediatric patients and families.

So I listen to my client stories as gifts they are entrusting me with because for some sharing their life story may be a new and anxiety producing experience.

What you can expect from me

I tend to listen and inquire as to what changes have occurred in my clients lives that motivated them to seek help. In the initial session in also inquire about past psychological assessments, prior diagnosis medications and any chronic or immediate physical/medical conditions they may have. I then proceed to take an individual and family history.
