Great to meet you!

My name is Ijeoma Felicia Ajunwa, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York with over 20 years of experience in the behavioral health field. I became fully licensed in September 2022 and have extensive experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based approaches to support individuals facing a wide range of mental health and life challenges.

Throughout my career, I have worked in diverse clinical settings, including inpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient mental health programs, substance use treatment clinics, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) programs, and services supporting individuals living with HIV and those experiencing homelessness. I have provided both individual and group counseling to adults, families, and children dealing with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, trauma, adjustment challenges, and complex psychosocial stressors.

My approach to therapy

I am passionate about providing compassionate, client-centered care and creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and empowered. My approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and advocacy. I believe in meeting clients where they are, helping them build on their strengths, and working together to develop practical tools for emotional wellness, personal growth, and long-term stability.

I am committed to building strong therapeutic relationships through active engagement, persistence, and coordinated care, while supporting clients in achieving meaningful and lasting positive outcomes in their lives.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment during their first session with me. I understand that beginning therapy can feel overwhelming, so my goal is to help clients feel comfortable, heard, and respected from the very beginning. I strive to create a safe space where individuals can openly share their concerns, experiences, and personal goals at their own pace.

During the initial session, we will discuss the challenges that brought the client to therapy, review relevant personal, emotional, family, medical, or behavioral health history, and begin identifying areas the client would like to improve or better understand. I take a collaborative and client-centered approach, working together with clients to establish realistic goals that support emotional wellness, stability, healthier coping skills, improved relationships, and overall quality of life.

Clients can also expect empathy, active listening, professionalism, and encouragement throughout the process. Drawing from my extensive experience in mental health, substance use treatment, crisis intervention, and community-based care, I tailor treatment to meet each individual’s unique needs and strengths. Whether someone is experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, substance use challenges, family difficulties, or stress related to daily living, I am committed to helping them feel supported, empowered, and hopeful as they begin their healing journey.
