Great to meet you!

Sometimes you can be doing your best to adapt and still feel like life is asking more of you than you know how to carry. Anxiety may keep your mind constantly active, depression can make it difficult to feel like yourself, grief may change the way you experience everyday life, or challenges in your relationships can leave you feeling disconnected and unsure of what to do next. I provide therapy in English and Spanish for children, adolescents, adults, seniors, couples, and families throughout Florida, with a focus on anxiety, ADHD, depression, grief and loss, and relationship issues. I also support clients navigating family stress, panic, cultural and ethnic concerns, women's issues, LGBTQIA+ and transgender concerns, physical health challenges, and other life stressors that can become intertwined with the reasons you initially seek therapy. Having immigrated from Cuba to the United States as a teenager, I understand personally that adapting to change can require resilience while also raising questions about identity, belonging, and connection. My goal is to create a warm, culturally responsive space where you feel genuinely understood and empowered to move forward.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy works best when we understand the whole person rather than focusing only on a diagnosis or symptom. Your family, culture, relationships, past experiences, strengths, and current circumstances all influence how you experience the challenges in front of you. Anxiety, ADHD, depression, grief, or relationship difficulties may be what brings you to therapy, while family dynamics, stress, panic, identity, cultural experiences, or health concerns may add important layers to that story. We'll explore those connections while keeping the changes that matter most to you at the center of our work. My approach is primarily person-centered, meaning I want you to feel heard, respected, and accepted as we work together. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to identify patterns that contribute to distress, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you navigate difficult emotions while staying connected to your values, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy to strengthen awareness and emotional regulation, Solution Focused Brief Therapy to identify practical next steps, and Emotion Focused Therapy when understanding and expressing emotions can strengthen relationships. When working with children and families, I can also draw from behavioral approaches and Child-Parent Psychotherapy while continuing my training toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist.

What you can expect from me

You won't need to arrive at your first appointment knowing exactly what to say or having a perfectly defined goal for therapy. We'll begin by getting to know you, understanding what has been happening in your life, and identifying what you genuinely hope will feel different. From there, we'll create goals together and choose an approach that fits your needs rather than expecting you to fit into a predetermined version of therapy. You can expect me to be warm, supportive, and empowering while also helping you identify practical strategies that can make a difference outside our sessions. Progress may look like managing anxiety with greater confidence, understanding ADHD more effectively, reconnecting with yourself during depression, finding a healthier way to carry grief, communicating more openly in relationships, or feeling more grounded in your identity and culture. My hope is that therapy helps you recognize the resilience you already possess and gives you additional tools to meet life's challenges without losing sight of who you are.

I especially like the adaptation/resilience thread for Flor because it connects her personal story to her clinical approach without making the bio about her. It also gives her cultural responsiveness and bilingual care a meaningful role in the narrative instead of treating them as marketplace keywords.
