Great to meet you!

I am a prescriber based in Texas and identify as Black/African American. I am a dual-certified nurse practitioner specializing in Family and Psychiatric Mental Health, and I earned my Doctorate in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).

With over 15 years of experience in healthcare—including mental health, oncology, primary care, public health, women’s health, and critical care—I bring a broad, holistic perspective to patient care. These experiences have prepared me to support patients in achieving meaningful and lasting care goals.

I practice using evidence-based approaches tailored to each patient’s individual needs and goals. My passion for mental health continues to drive my work, and I am deeply committed to helping my patients create positive outcomes and lasting success in their care.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is patient-centered, collaborative, and evidence-based. I believe in treating the whole person, not just symptoms, by considering emotional, psychological, physical, and social factors that impact mental health. I work to create a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and supported.

I emphasize shared decision-making, ensuring that clients are active participants in their treatment. Education is a key component of my practice—I take time to explain diagnoses, treatment options, and medications so clients can make informed choices about their care.

When appropriate, I integrate psychotherapy principles with thoughtful medication management, tailoring treatment plans to each individual’s goals, values, and lifestyle. I also prioritize ongoing assessment, open communication, and flexibility, adjusting care plans as needs evolve.

Above all, my goal is to foster trust, empowerment, and long-term wellness, supporting clients as they build insight, resilience, and sustainable coping strategies.

What you can expect from me

During the first session, the focus is on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to care. We will discuss your current concerns, symptoms, and goals for treatment in a safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental environment. I will ask about your mental health history, medical history, medications, lifestyle, stressors, and support system to gain a full picture of your needs.

You can expect a collaborative conversation, not an interrogation. Together, we will begin to identify patterns, triggers, and strengths. If appropriate, we may discuss a working diagnosis, treatment options (such as therapy approaches and/or medication), and next steps. Education about your symptoms and treatment choices is a key part of the visit.

Most importantly, the first session is about building trust and rapport. You are encouraged to ask questions, share at your own pace, and be open about what you hope to gain from treatment. By the end of the session, you should leave with clarity, a preliminary plan, and a sense of direction for your mental health care.
