Great to meet you!

Hellerr, My name is Frankee Carlin (LMFT #150114) and I have been practicing since graduating from University of San Francisco (USF) in 2017. As a therapist with lived experience, I firmly believe that life is hard and that American capitalist/colonialist society does little to provide people with the tools needed to thrive. Having worked with a wide variety of clients across race, ethnicity, class, gender identity, and sexual orientation, I enjoy working with those who have been labeled as outcast, weird, and/or radical, particularly specializing in neurodivergence, trauma, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, substance use, and relationships. This therapy space is LGBTQIA+ affirming.

My approach to therapy

In our therapy sessions, we'll help you process what's going on: bring contributing factors into awareness, identify what values uphold the current constellation of things, assess how various systems influence your perspective, and explore what shifts (if any) need to be made to bring more enjoyment and ease into life. The goal is to help you develop better attention and bring more intention into what is happening so that we can increase the benefits and reduce the harm being experienced. That work is grounded in mindfulness, self-compassion, and harm reduction principles and uses interventions related to motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and somatic practices.

What you can expect from me

Research shows that the strongest predictor of positive outcomes in therapy is the quality of the collaborative relationship, known as therapeutic alliance. So the first session is really about assessing for that. We get a chance to figure out whether my skills, approach, and support style actually match what you want and need. We'll also cover informed consent (boundaries like scheduling, cancellations, privacy, etc.) so you know what to expect as we continue.

That's genuinely it, we're just getting a read on each other. If we choose to work together, we can continue to clarify diagnosis, if necessary, and create treatment goals.
