Great to meet you!

I’ve come to this field in (roughly) midlife. I started my career as a lawyer and have practiced law for about 25 years.

I work with adults who want from therapy and life something more, or at least something different, than solely managing symptoms or treating disorders. The beating heart of therapy is wisdom–growing and developing the capacity to direct our attention, to be in right relationship with ourselves, others and the world, to recognize what really matters, to orient ourselves properly to those things, and to make our way through the challenges of life in a way that realizes the best in ourselves and in life.

My approach to therapy

A good friend once remarked to me that there are a lot of different ways for life to be hard. I’ve experienced something of the truth of this observation. I’ve also experienced and trust in the possibility of change and in the value and benefit of therapy for developing greater wisdom in how to live, finding greater meaning in life, fostering growth and cultivating new capacities, relieving human suffering, and opening up possibilities that life can be different and better.

I’m largely pluralistic and integrative in my approach. My work is depth oriented and mainly informed by mindfulness and somatically oriented approaches, Neuroaffective Behavioral Model (NARM), parts work (IFS (Internal Family Systems)), existential therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

What you can expect from me

Therapy can be about more than learning tools & skills to feel better. It can be about developing the capacity for the meaningful life that you've been after. It can take place in a space that's safe yet (occasionally) irreverent, where you'll feel seen & valued and still be challenged (both to grow and to laugh).

As we begin working together, we’ll explore your background, and what has led you to therapy. We’ll also explore your personal goals and intentions for the process and for your life.
