Great to meet you!

My name is George Gikera, and I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with advanced training from Regis College. I work with individuals across a wide spectrum of mental health challenges — from mood disorders and anxiety to trauma, addiction, and beyond — and I am committed to delivering care that is compassionate, evidence-based, and deeply personalized.

My primary areas of focus include bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, and chronic disease management as it intersects with mental health. I also have extensive experience supporting clients through PTSD, OCD, panic disorders, borderline personality, substance use and gambling addiction, grief and loss, anger management, sleep difficulties, and stress.

I bring a broad and flexible therapeutic toolkit to my practice — drawing on approaches including CBT, ACT, Trauma-Focused CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, and Behavioral Therapy. This range allows me to adapt my approach to fit each client's unique needs, rather than fitting clients into a single model.

I am here to meet you where you are — and to walk alongside you as you work toward where you want to be.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is integrative, flexible, and always guided by what works best for each individual. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all model of mental health treatment — people are complex, and their care should reflect that complexity.

I draw on a wide range of evidence-based modalities, selecting and blending techniques based on each client's presentation, goals, and preferences. For clients navigating trauma, I may lean into Trauma-Focused CBT or ACT to help process difficult experiences without being overwhelmed by them. For those struggling with negative thought patterns or mood disorders, CBT and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy offer structured, proven tools for building new ways of thinking and relating to emotions. For clients seeking to reconnect with meaning or reshape their personal narrative, I incorporate Narrative and Humanistic approaches. And for clients in early stages of change — including those managing addiction or ambivalence — Motivational Interviewing helps build genuine, self-directed motivation.

Underlying all of this is a strengths-based orientation: I believe every person who walks through my door already has resilience and capacity within them. My job is to help them access it.

I also take seriously the relationship between physical health and mental wellbeing. My focus on disease management reflects my commitment to treating the whole person — understanding that chronic illness, sleep disruption, and stress are not separate from psychiatric health, but deeply intertwined with it.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, the most important thing to know is this: you don't need to have it all figured out. Many clients arrive unsure of what they need or how to describe what they're going through — and that's completely okay. We start exactly where you are.

I'll spend time getting to know you — your background, your current challenges, what your daily life feels like, and what you're hoping might be different. I'll ask questions, but I'll also give you space to share things in your own way and at your own pace.

Together, we'll begin to identify patterns, set some early goals, and talk through what a treatment approach might look like for you. Given the breadth of tools I work with, there's real flexibility in how we shape your care — and you'll have a say in that from day one.

My goal for that first session is simple: that you leave feeling less alone, more understood, and with a sense that progress is possible. Whatever brought you in, you took a meaningful step by showing up — and I don't take that lightly
