In 2006 I graduated from The University of Texas at Brownsville with a Master's Degree in School Counseling. I have worked as a school counselor for 19 years. I have 9 years of experience working in private practice as a licensed professional counselor (LPC). In (2020) I obtained my LPC Supervisor status and established my own business, G.E.M. Counseling where my mission is to guide, encourage and mentor.
The way we think about things has an impact on our emotions. It is important for us to become self-aware of our thoughts to be able to control distorted thinking. By also examining our core belief system, we can prevent future emotional distress. Once we learn that we have control over our thoughts, we can grow and develop goals on how to solve our day-to-day problems.
I help teenagers and adults using cognitive and solution-focused therapies to help my clients reframe their thoughts and find their own solutions to their problems. Teaching self-care and wellness also provides benefits. I am also EMDR trained which is helpful in reprocessing trauma. I am bilingual and can provide therapy in all Spanish if needed.
