Great to meet you!

Hello, I'm Gurleen Hans, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a deep commitment to supporting individuals on their mental health journey. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University and have been a registered nurse for five years, working with diverse populations and cultures throughout California.

My background includes specialized training in psychiatric medication management, comprehensive diagnostic assessments, and treating a wide range of mental health conditions. I work with adolescents and adults across inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient settings, giving me a thorough understanding of care at varying levels of treatment intensity. This experience has reinforced my belief that recovery looks different for everyone and can happen at any stage of life.

My expertise spans the full spectrum of psychiatric care, from initial evaluation and accurate diagnosis to ongoing medication management and thoughtful treatment refinement.

I have extensive experience supporting individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and co-occurring substance use disorders. I also work with adolescents navigating mood disorders and behavioral challenges unique to their developmental stage. My work with Assertive Community Treatment teams has deepened my insight into supporting individuals with complex needs within real-world community settings.

What drives my work is a genuine love of caring for others and helping people find meaningful relief from their symptoms. I believe effective mental health care requires clinical expertise, compassion, cultural sensitivity, and a true willingness to listen to each person's unique story. I am here to partner with you in achieving your goals.

My approach to therapy

I believe outstanding psychiatric care requires both clinical expertise and genuine human compassion — and I bring both to every encounter. My approach is grounded in the understanding that you hold deep knowledge of your own life and experiences, while I contribute specialized expertise in psychiatric medications and mental health treatment. Together, we form a powerful team.

I am dedicated to creating an environment where you feel truly heard, respected, and supported. I take time to understand your full situation — your symptoms, history, goals, prior treatment experiences, and how your mental health affects daily functioning. I practice shared decision-making, presenting treatment options, explaining the science behind them in accessible language, and helping you make informed choices that feel right for you.

Psychiatric treatment sometimes requires patience and adjustments, and finding the right medication and dosage takes time. I am committed to remaining engaged and supportive throughout that process — monitoring your progress carefully, welcoming your feedback openly, and making changes whenever needed. I also take a holistic view of care, exploring how sleep, exercise, stress, nutrition, and relationships work alongside medication to shape your mental health. Your wellness path is unique, and my approach will always reflect the full complexity of who you are. Through every stage of that journey, my commitment to you remains constant and unconditional.

I am passionate about reducing stigma and helping people recognize that seeking psychiatric support is a genuine act of strength. My goal is helping you not just manage symptoms, but reclaim your quality of life and restore hope. You deserve skilled, compassionate, personalized care delivered with respect and kindness — and that is precisely what I am here to provide, from our very first session to every appointment that follows.

What you can expect from me

Your first visit is an opportunity to connect and start building a genuine, collaborative relationship. We begin with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation covering your current symptoms, when they first appeared, and how they are affecting your daily functioning, relationships, and quality of life. I will ask about your medical history, prior mental health care, medications you have tried and how they worked, your family psychiatric background, and any substance use. I will also conduct a thorough mental status assessment and thoughtfully address any pressing concerns you bring.

This visit belongs to you just as much as it does to me. It is your opportunity to ask questions, share your goals, and describe what you hope to achieve. There are no wrong answers—I welcome your story in your own words, at whatever pace feels right for you. I approach everything you share with genuine curiosity, complete respect, and real compassion, never judgment.

Please bring any current medication lists or prior records if you have them. By the end of our appointment, we will work toward an initial diagnostic understanding and shape a preliminary plan together. If medication seems appropriate, I will walk you through your options, expected benefits, and possible side effects so you can make a fully informed decision. If you already take psychiatric medications, we will review how well they are working and whether adjustments would strengthen your progress.

We will schedule follow-up visits to track your progress and ensure consistent, dependable support over time. I also remain accessible between appointments so help is available whenever questions or concerns come up. Whether this is your first time seeking care or a transition from another provider, I will meet you exactly where you are—with patience, genuine warmth, and deep respect for your unique journey and everything that has brought you here.
